Making diffuser blends for your clients Preview 01:37

What you should know when it comes to making diffuser blends for your clients.

Roller bottles are great for your clients! Preview 02:39

Roller bottles are fabulous! Download the Pdf file to check out some great blends for various disorders. I use 10 drops in a 10 ml roller bottle which is roughly 3% dilution. You can decrease the drops to a 2% or even 1% dilution depending on your client.

Remember if you are going to make a roller bottle with your own blend and want to make, for example, a 4-10% blend for pain then make sure that you do not use high dilution of essential oils that are irritating in your blend.

How to charge correctly for your essential oil blends and products Preview 03:21

It is vital that you work out you costs so that you don't end up losing money. Here is the way to break it down simply.

Relaxation massages and the correct dilutions for your clients Preview 02:48

When it comes to doing full body relaxation massages you should use a 1% dilution rate for children, pregnant women, nursing mothers, people with known sensitivities, people who are frail etc and you can use a 2% dilution for health adults.

1% - 9 drops essential oil total in 1oz (30mls) massage oil or cream

2%- 18 drops essential oil total in 1oz (30mls) massage oil or cream

Treating problem areas-you can increase your dilution levels. Preview 02:02

When working on small areas we can increase the dilution rates from 4-10%  such as a painful lower back. Again, stick with a lower dilution (4% or less) for elderly people, people with known sensitivities etc. Use your professional judgment.

Also, when. I am talking about acute sprains and strains and working perhaps as high as 20% dilution make sure that you are using essential oils that are gentle on the skin such as German chamomile, roman chamomile, lavender and/or helichrysum. As you will note later in the helichrysum lecture, it is my favorite for sprains, strains and other acute injuries.

If you are a reflexologist, here is what you can do. Preview 01:19

For reflexologist, you can use a 4-10% dilution on the feet (or less) when treating the reflex zones.

Make your full body massage sessions 75 mins or more. Preview 01:48

Especially when you get started, it is a really good idea to leave at least 75 mins. for your massages to not only prepare the specific blends but also to give your recommendations to your client after the massage

The consultation with your clients is really important Preview 04:23

The consultation process is important as always and here I explain some of the things that you should be asking to better help get an idea of what blend you would prepare.

A word about diluting for different people Preview 02:38

I would like you to assess when it comes to dilution rates depending on the people that you see. It is always best to start with a lower dilution to be safe on clients that have sensitivities or are weaker, are elderly etc.

It is important to keep good records for several reasons Preview 01:20

In this section, I am going to give a brief review of the main therapeutic properties of several essential oils that you may be using so that if you have several essential oils and you would like to know them better then check them out in this section.

Basil Preview 02:44

Basil Essential Oil is amongst the oils that I immediately think of when I want an oil that can help stimulate my mind and allow me to focus on the task at hand. Basil Essential Oil is an energizing oil and is best used during the morning and daytime hours.

Basil Essential Oil tends to be one of the first oils that I select when I have a cold. It is considered anti-bacterial/anti-viral, it acts as an expectorant and it also helps keep me alert. Basil Oil is also said to help with headaches, though it's not one I commonly use for that purpose.

Bergamot Preview 01:55

Caution:

Buy Bergapten Free Bergamot, which is safe for use in the sun, if not you should not go out into the sun uncovered for 24 hours as it is highly phototoxic

Bergamot is a favorite amongst essential oil users for its aroma and therapeutic properties. Its scent is citrusy with a hint of floral making it unique and vibrant. This wonderful aroma is known for its ability to help boost the mind and ease your worries, especially during times of sadness and grief.

Bergamot is gentle for skin care and can help tackle teenage skin problems and oily skin. It is also a favorite to add to massage blends to help reduce muscle tension and give relief from tightness caused by overexertion or achy muscles.

Black Pepper Preview 01:59

Black pepper is a wonderful pain reliever and is a warming anti-inflammatory essential oils so great for aches and pains, to be an oil in your pain salve blend, to use in a bland for arthritis and any other joint problems. It has terrific analgesic properties.

It is also stimulating for the mind.

Cardamon Preview 01:16

Cardamon is a fabulous essential oil that is a digestive and appetite stimulant and also anti spasmodic. This is a great oil that you could make a lotion or oil with basil for digestive problems or problems such as IBS etc.

Cedarwood Preview 02:26

Cedarwood  has a rich, woody, slightly sweet and spicy aroma that is reminiscent of the antique cedar chests handed down from generation to generation. This wonderful essential oil is known for its therapeutic properties throughout the oil world for calming and helping focus. It is great for sleeping problems due to an overactive mind.

Cedarwood is gentle and nourishing for the skin. When you make blends for fungus, muscle or joint pain, allergies, colds, or inflammation, Cedarwood is a great addition (especially if you used any potential skin-irritating oils in the blend).

For example, if you're making a blend for muscle pain with Ginger and Peppermint, adding Cedarwood contributes to the reduction of pain and protects your skin from the potentially irritating effects of Ginger and Peppermint.

Cedarwood offers a calming and grounding effect.

  • Antifungal – reduces the growth of fungus

  • Calms the nervous system

  • Decongestant – reduces congestion and swelling

  • Reduces swelling (inflammation)

  • Relieves pain

  • Settles digestion and may assist in preventing gas

  • Skin nourishing – taking care of the skin so that it may become/stay healthy

Chamomile German Preview 02:22

The powerful scent of Chamomile German is widely known for its calming properties and very helpful to children who have problems with focus. It is also an excellent soother of congested skin and can be used in blends to assist with seasonal pollen threats and is great for skin healing and wounds, muscle spasms and cramps

Chamomile Roman Preview 00:57

The powerful, sweet scent is a favorite among essential oil users to help ease children and adults to sleep. It has a more calming effect than the German chamomile so great to calm down children. .This oil is soothing and gentle and helps to ease tired muscles after strenuous exercise and aching joints

Cinnamon Preview 02:19

Cinnamon oil needs to be respected and used in very low dilutions in a blend as it can be an irritant to the skin. However, it is a wonderfully warming oil and excellent pain reliever. I would suggest that you buy cinnamon leaf if you are going to use this oil topically as it is much less irritating to the skin.

Clove Preview 01:13

Clove essential oil is great for cold and flu season and have anesthetic properties so great for a blend for pain relief.

Eucalyptus Preview 01:43

Eucalyptus essential oil is second to none when it comes to helping with respiratory tract infections such as colds and flus.

When working with people who have asthma or breathing issues, Eucalyptus requires evaluation for tolerance. Have them smell the cap of the oil. If it makes their chest feel tight, don't use it. Although research shows it can be helpful with bronchial asthma, it also shows concern that it might set off an asthma attack.

Caution is needed with children under ten years old, as the oil could cause breathing problems (never use it with infants)

If pain is from muscle overuse or an injury, the oil brings more circulation to the area where it's applied and reduces inflammation. It is an excellent oil for muscle and joint pain in general.

Frankincense Preview 01:38

Frankincense is great for headaches and tension in the neck muscles. You can use it in your muscle pain blends to help reduce inflammation and pain.It is also great for reducing scar tissue. You can use it for preventing new scars, or for old existing ones and have your clients use it daily in a lotion that you can make for them.

Geranium Preview 01:17

Ginger Preview 01:32

Ginger is one of the best oils for dealing with nausea, such as the kind caused by travel sickness or morning sickness during pregnancy. Just the aroma alone can alleviate the nausea; you don't even need to apply it to the skin. Using an inhaler works great. (Be sure to combine Ginger with oils that are easy on mucous membranes, like Roman Chamomile or Lavender.)

For chronic swollen joints that are better with warmth Ginger is a fantastic choice. It helps warm the area, create circulation, and reduce inflammation and pain so that you can advise your clients to use the blend that you make them or have it in your pain salve as one of the oil and get them to apply a heat pack over the area as well for better effect.

Grapefruit Preview 01:36

An exceptionally refreshing purifier, grapefruit oil is renowned for its broad spectrum of uplifting effects on the body and mind. Like other astringent citrus oils, grapefruit essential oil is believed to restore smoothness and suppleness and to beautify the skin. Its stimulating effect also helps boost the effectiveness of massage.

A mild euphoric, it can soothe and uplift the emotions and spirit and help balance a tired and overstimulated nervous system.

This is also excellent for lymphatic drainage and is said to be good for weight loss as well.

Helichrysum Preview 01:38

Ok, so I know I did say that German chamomile was my favorite for sprains and strains and now I am saying this is my favorite. What can I say..I love them both equally I guess :) Those and of course lavender. That is why the acute sprains and strains oil that I have for you has all 3 of them in it.

True Helichrysum Italicum oil, also known as Immortelle, is grown only in a few spots around the world and is unsurpassed in its ability to rejuvenate the look of healthy, unblemished skin. Use it to reduce the appearance of scars and wrinkles, or other skin blemishes on the face or body.

Helichrysum Italicum oil also soothes deep emotional feelings and diffuse anger and destructive feelings. It is excellent for coughs and muscular aches and pains.

It is my favorite for treating acute injuries.

It is best known for its skin care applications. When added to a carrier oil, it can help with the appearance of skin wrinkles, scars, and skin blemishes and it’s a wonderful addition to a man’s deodorant formula. Peppermint Preview 02:09

I would not use with children under five years—it's too strong. Even though Tisserand suggest that it can be diffused and topically applied at 0.5% I suggest that you play it safe and not do it.

Peppermint should not be used at all in case of cardiac fibrillation.

Peppermint should not be used in a full body bath as it can cause a burning sensation and skin irritation.

However it's one of the most effective oils you can use for pain. It's a cooling anti-inflammatory essential oil and is great when the pain is hot (inflamed and red), as it's very cooling and helps the area feel numb. It is also an excellent choice for muscle spasms.

Make sure that any blends keep this essential oil as a fairly low dilution as it is very powerful.

It has been well studied for its benefits on memory and so think about using this and basil as part of your focus/memory/concentration blends.
