In this 1-day course you will learn communication and safety standards for managing the flow of traffic in work zones. You will graduate this course fully informed and trained to immediately enter the workforce as a flagger.

Individuals working as flaggers are required to be qualified. Qualification means you have received proper training in the techniques of safely and competently performing a flagging operation. In North Carolina, your flagger qualification is to be completed by an NCDOT approved training agency.

Prior to beginning work on a project, a Qualification Statement that all flaggers used on the project have been properly trained through an NCDOT approved training resource shall be provided to the Project Engineer. Carolina Equipment Training is an NCDOT approved training provider.

Traffic Flaggers are the people on construction sites who control traffic. They are the men and women along roads and highways helping to maintain a safe flow of traffic when lanes are shut down. Flaggers often work in teams, with each person controlling the flow of traffic in a certain direction.

In this course you will gain the skills for making sure everyone in a work zone stays safe — including yourself. Traffic flaggers are effective in preventing accidents yet they expose themselves to the most hazardous road conditions.

Your job as a flagger is more important than you may realize. Traffic accidents take thousands of lives every year, all around the world. Properly-positioned and maintained traffic control measures, along with attentive, well-trained flaggers, are all that separate roadside workers and drivers from the dangers associated with roadwork.

You will work in a mock construction zone to execute standard practices for safe traffic control. To become a skilled flagger you will also learn how to stay focused for making good decisions and handling emergency situations.

Trained flaggers have a great job outlook with the DOT and private companies due to a surge in construction.
