Fashion Design and Technology as a Career

Posted On : January 15, 22

Fashion design is a popular choice among students. Thousands of people apply to fashion design schools around the country every year. So if you want to work in fashion design, you’ve come to the correct place.

Indian fashion institute JD Institute of Fashion Technology offers fashion courses, makeup artistry, fashion, and interior design courses. India’s top fashion design students pick JD Institute as their top running choice.

The fashion industry has grown enormously in a decade. So popular in India and beyond, fashion design is a lucrative career option.  Choosing the right Fashion Designing degree will open doors for you. But, before joining, you need to know a few things about fashion designing and what fashion designing is about, after all.

Fashion design combines design, aesthetics, clothing manufacture, and natural beauty. It has changed with time and place, affected by culture and trends. A designer might specialize in apparel, accessories, jewelry, or work in many sectors.

Fashion designers use shapes, colours, fabric, and details to create styles. Fashion designers use many approaches to design bands, bracelets, and chains. Due to the time it takes to create an outfit, a designer must occasionally anticipate customer trends. Our civilization needs fashion designers who rely on their skills and vision to influence culture and expression.

Manufacturers use their designs, product quality, purchasing, and merchandising techniques to influence a designer’s fundamental role. Designers research and forecast fashion trends for the client. Trends are seen differently by budget retailers and high-end retailers.

Stylish apparel is hard to come by. However, special occasions often demand formal clothing or party dresses.

Haute couture and bespoke tailoring are examples of custom-made clothing. Nowadays, most clothing is mass-produced, incredibly casual, and everyday wear.

A fashion designer must have a bachelor’s degree in design to get employed. Undergraduate Fashion Design courses often last three to four years. To be a fashion designer, one must understand materials, textiles, and current trends.

You must study color, fabrics, needlework and stitching, design creation,  history of fashion, and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) as a fashion design major.

Education will help new fashion designers understand every aspect of fashion and design clothing and footwear. Also, interning with a fashion designer will benefit new fashion designers. It will assist budding fashion designers in acquiring a vibe for the industry and deciding if they want to continue.

Fashion design is a highly sought-after profession that requires the designer to anticipate what the consumer demands and then deliver it. Related fields include:

·         Design using Leather

·         Design of Accessory

·         Designs for Textiles

·         Knitwear Style

·         Communication in Fashion

While some students pursue full-time careers after graduation, we recommend professional study by enrolling in fashion courses. Students must have completed their basic 10+2 in any stream. In addition, candidates must be artistically inclined and inventive. Possessing an acute sense of color is an extra benefit. Entrance examinations are held at the National Institutes of Fashion Technology, the National Institutes of Design, Apeejay Institute of Design, Pearl Academy of Fashion, and Wigan and Leigh College.

Along with the study of fashion courses, to be a fashion designing professional, one must have the following skills:

·         Artistic and creative temperament

·         Color, texture, and shape knowledge

·         Understanding of pattern cutting and stitching

·         Fashion trend knowledge

·         Skills in doodling and sketching

·         Innovation and originality

Upon completing their fashion courses, fashion designers first research the market and fashion trends. Then they draw their clothes or accessory ideas. They also contact manufacturers to order fabric or other items for their garment or accessory lines. Designers sometimes visit trade events. Finally, fashion designers fit and alter prototypes before selling their finished creations in their showrooms or to clothes shops.

Being your boss is one of the perks of working in the fashion industry. You may learn from famous designers and obtain valuable expertise and exposure before starting your label by working for them. You can also work at an exporter or a clothing factory.

Those with a fashion design degree can work in any of the following fields:

·         Fashion designer

·         Fashion advertiser

·         Retail purchaser

·         Retail merchandiser

·         Stylist

·         Textile designer

·         Fashion coordinator

A fashion designer’s compensation varies based on their expertise and the firm/company they work for. PayScale.com reports that the average Fashion Designer income is Rs 3,64,296. Therefore, a fashion designer’s beginning pay is roughly Rs 1,76411.

A bachelor’s degree in fashion courses can lead to a job in three to four years. However, aspirants should know that becoming a recognized fashion designer may take years.

Studying fashion technology is a great option if you’re actively interested in fashion design but believe the industry is overrun and want to look into other options.

A degree in Fashion Technology is only provided at a few Indian institutes and is a four-year B. FTech in Apparel Production. One of the most popular fashion technology courses focuses on fabric kinds. Students learn to examine fabric and pick the suitable cloth for the job.

10+2 with  Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics

Graduating from this program might enable graduates to work directly for fashion houses or garment manufacturers as assistant production managers or production managers.

A fashion design degree allows graduates to launch their label or work for an existing fashion designer. Corporate and retail establishments also recruit fashion design graduates.

The JD Institute is among India’s and Asia’s leading fashion schools. JD Institute’s fashion design students are well equipped for their future professions in India because of multiple opportunities for international exposure, work internships, and industry expertise.
