Description

This course, delivered by APC Assessor Chairman and practising Chartered Surveyor David Inman FRICS, outlines what you need to understand in terms of the RICS regulatory requirements to be successful with the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence (APC).

This course is designed for levels 1, 2 and 3 for the RICS APC competency "Ethics, Rules of Conduct and professionalism".

It is well known that if you get any item of this competency wrong your final assessment, you will not pass and be referred.

All RICS members are required to undertake learning in relation to the RICS Global Professional and Ethical Standards at least once every three years and this course, whilst tailored to APC candidates, will support this requirement.

Unit 1 – Introduction to this APC competency Preview 13:14

The first unit outlines the requirements of levels 1, 2 and 3 of the Ethics, Rules of Conducts and Professionalism APC competency.

Unit 2 - The 5 RICS Ethical Standards Preview 10:00

Here, we explain the 5 RICS Ethical and Professional Standards and how you can apply them to demonstrate compliance and commitment.

Unit 3 -RICS Rules of Conduct for members (expires 1 February 2022) Preview 06:08

The unit outlines what is required for RICS members under the Rules of Conduct for Members.

Unit 4 - RICS Rules of Conduct for Firms (expires 1 February 2022) Preview 23:20

The unit details the requirements that firms regulated by RICS must meet. Also what steps an organisation must take to become regulated by RICS on a voluntary and mandatory basis are covered.

Here, we include changes to the regulation of firms that is mandatory from 1 April 2020.

Unit 5 - Professional Indemnity Insurance Preview 13:00

All RICS-regulated firms must have adequate and appropriate professional indemnity arrangements under the requirements of our Rules of Conduct for Firms. This unit covers these requirements, including run-off cover and tips to what questions may arise on the subject at Final Assessment.

Unit 6 - Complaints handling Preview 10:02

This unit covers the RICS' requirements for complaints handling. Whilst most complaints are quickly resolved, if no agreement is reached the complain can be escalated and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) is used.

Also covered in this unit is the definition of mediation and arbitration, a classic APC final assessment question.

Unit 7 - Handling Clients' money Preview 06:30

Here, we explain what clients' money is and what rules RICS has in place to ensure this money is safe.

Unit 8 - Conflicts of interest Preview 04:50

Unit 8 outlines the different conflicts of interest and the RICS' requirements to prevent these.

Unit 9 - Countering bribery & corruption, money laundering & terrorist financing Preview 12:45

In our final lecture, we look at how we can protect ourselves and our employers against bribery, money laundering and corruption and by doing this prevent terrorist finances. We also look at the RICS' requirements for Countering bribery & corruption, money laundering & terrorist financing

Lecture 10 - Putting theory into practice Preview 04:04

In our final section, we invite our learners to apply the Ethics, Rules of Conduct and professionalism competency and as a desktop exercise outline, using the form supplied, how they must do to set up an RICS regulated firm.
