Description

Let me be up front about this course. I cannot teach you everything about being a Scrum Master in an hour or two. I doubt if anyone can. But what I have done is taken the Scrum guide, which is the core of Scrum, stripped it down to the bone and rebuilt it, trying to give lessons that cover all the Scrum basics in a simple and easy to understand set of lessons.

That being said, it is comprehensive in covering all areas of Scrum basics, starting with the history of Scrum, moving onto definitions, theory and values, before a deep dive into the the 3 Scrum roles, the 5 Scrum events and the 3 Scrum Artifacts.

I have cross referenced this course with a number of the popular Scrum master certifications like the PSM1 and the CSM to make sure it covers all the areas needed.

You should take this course if you want a thorough understanding of what Scrum is, either as a beginner, perhaps joining an agile environment for the first time or as a Scrum Master who wants to improve their core knowledge of Scrum.

If you are taking your first scrum master certification, I have also designed another course which provides over 120 exam questions and answers. We believe that these two go hand in hand. The aim is that, at the end, you will be able to pass an exam (like the professional Scrum master (PSM1) exam*)

The course focuses on students who are new to Scrum and wish to gain a thorough understanding as per the Scrum Guide, the Scrum Holy Grail. It is also extremely suited to those who are taking their first Scrum certification, whether it is the PSM1 from Scrum.org or the CSM exam.

History of Agile and Lean Preview 07:26

Note from Dave: As we started to put the timeline for this video together I realised that it would not be complete without including Lean.

I do get asked quite often about the difference between Agile and Lean. I wont specifically address that question here. But I will just say that both Lean and Agile were built on different values and different principles and that each evolved a set of practices based on those values and principles. A few examples would be Scrum and Kanban.

The fact that many of the practices can be said to be a member of both is a testament to the similarity in the core ideals!

The differences in the practices could also be partly put down to the generation gap between the two!

With Lean starting in the 1950s when problem solving was in what we call the complicated phase of problem solving to Agile, in this new century where we have moved into the complex zone with different problem solving practices needed

Before you read through this list, please be aware that not all Scrum teams will use all ten activities. In fact, some of them are debated in the agile world as unnecessary, red tape etc.

Some of them have sections dedicated to them in the Scrum guide while others don't even get a look in. But they are all very useful and I would say that they are all worthy of consideration, let your experience as a Scrum Master dictate your whether you use or dismiss!
