The Bridge Program – Trauma Informed Care Team at CCRC offers Trauma Informed Care training to child care providers in various settings. This 16-hour training series is comprised of seven 2-hour modules that begin with brain development and end with self-care. Child care providers report an increase in understanding how trauma impacts development and learning trauma informed strategies that effectively help address problem behaviors. The following is a brief on what each module covers.

This initial training module will focus on defining Trauma Informed Care and overviews brain and early development in the context of how trauma impacts children’s brain development. It discusses the role of the regulation and sensory systems in terms of developing healthy self-regulation and attachments.

his module will focus how trauma impacts development in specific how the stress response system activates and what this looks like in children 0-5. In addition, this module addresses the sensory system on how trauma impacts the sensory system and understanding the sensory input that is being received. It discusses Adverse Childhood Experiences and how these have a lifelong impact.

This training builds on the concept of trauma-informed care as it helps providers identify trauma behaviors in young children. Providers will learn about explicit and implicit memories as well as normal stress responses in children. Specific examples of dysregulated behaviors will be provided and strategies to create a safe environment for children will be discussed.

This training builds on the concept of trauma-informed care by helping providers understand the message behind a child’s behavior and provides strategies to be more empathetic with all children. Providers will learn the importance of using empathy with a child who is showing challenging behavior.

This training builds on the concept of trauma-informed care by helping providers promote executive functioning in children and by providing strategies to build healthy attachments between a child and a primary caregiver. Trauma specific strategies that assist in soothing a dysregulated child will also be discussed.

This training builds on the concept of trauma-informed care by helping providers understand the risks and protective factors related to serving a Bridge child. Specific strategies for strengthening families are provided, offering more ways to engage the families of children in your care.

This training builds on the concept of trauma-informed care by helping providers understand how self-care impacts daily interactions with a child.
