Studying for the LSAT is a crucial part of becoming a law student, and there are many different study aids law students can seek to get them the score of their dreams. One resource that proves to assist some law school prospects is Khan Academy

This article will explore Khan Academy's options for those studying for the LSAT and the pros and cons of using Khan Academy for LSAT prep.

In 2006, Sal Khan founded Khan Academy as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Khan Academy's mission is to educate the world through a digital classroom concept. The website provides a variety of courses, including science, art, history, and financial literacy, for all ages. The website offers test preparation for LSAT takers and other graduate school tests.

There are many benefits to using Khan Academy for studying for the LSAT. Some of these positive aspects include the website being a free resource, customization features, and the ability to track your progress. Below we analyze the benefits Khan Academy's online LSAT resource provides.

Because the beginning of a law school is very costly, finding money-saving resources is essential. Since Khan Academy provides a free resource, it can save students thousands of dollars compared to a traditional prep course. A traditional prep course like Kaplan or The Princeton Review can cost anywhere between $1500-$2500.

Also, the customization of learning is a plus. You can customize your LSAT prep journey based on the date of your actual LSAT. Then, Khan Academy will curate a suggested amount of study time to use on their platform. Also, you can see the areas you need to focus on because Khan Academy will display your strengths and weaknesses.

For example, if you are performing poorly in the logical reasoning section, Khan Academy will encourage you to focus more on those types of questions. However, if you are performing exceptionally on the assumption questions, the website will recognize assumption questions as your strength.

Another positive aspect of using Khan Academy is that you can track your progress in each section of the test. There is a way to follow your progress on analytical reasoning, logical reasoning, and reading comprehension sections. Also, you can track your progress through short practice problems or by completing a full practice test.

The tracking feature is great because you can quickly complete the problems or complete a full practice test and put it under timed conditions. The timed conditions option will allow you to simulate an actual LSAT

According to LSAC's website, LSAC shared that they have collaborated with Khan Academy since 2018. This collaboration is beneficial to test takers who choose to use Khan Academy because they can learn from test administrators. In addition, it builds trust in the platform because the referral is coming from a credible source.

One of the cons of using Khan Academy for LSAT prep is that it provides very general information, whereas other test preparation courses offer tips and tricks that are more new to the specific test taker.

For instance, some students benefit from knowing unique approaches in attacking LSAT questions. Typically,  private tutors or highly specialized tutoring organizations teach special techniques to LSAT questions.

Another downside of using Khan Academy is that you don't reach out to someone to ask in-depth questions. For example, students can raise their hands in an actual classroom and ask a professor or instructor specific questions. Further, human interaction allows students to learn from each other, which Khan Academy lacks.

Many prep courses such as Magoosh LSAT and Princeton Review LSAT offer prep courses with a live classroom component, but Khan Academy does not provide that. The organization does provide a community blog space for students to collaborate, ask questions, and leave feedback, but it is not very active for LSAT students.

Studying in a classroom setting can be beneficial for LSAT test-takers who struggle with staying motivated while completing a self-study course. So, if you're the type of student who loves group learning, the Khan Academy LSAT course won't be ideal for you.

When students begin the LSAT study journey, it isn't easy to curate a study plan. Fortunately, Khan Academy provides new LSAT students with an excellent study plan. Like Khan Academy, there aren't perfect study aids, so it requires test takers and students to search around. Students should supplement Khan Academy with other resources to reach their full potential on the LSAT. Additional resources may include books, tutors, and other websites.

While many students perform exceptionally, relying solely on Khan Academy, Khan Academy may not augment other LSAT study tools for students who learn better through human interaction. Some students may struggle from lack of specificity to one's learning needs, and some students have different learning styles.

Overall, Khan Academy can be a great tool in performing well on the LSAT. Still, it may work even better if you supplement your prep course in studies with other study aids such as private tutoring, books, and other online prep courses. For our pick for the best LSAT prep course, we recommend you The Princeton Review LSAT.

Khan Academy is a 100% free online resource. Unlike other LSAT prep companies, Khan Academy is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.

The Khan Academy LSAT diagnostic is 1.5 hours or 3 hours long. There are two types–one is for students to take a quick test and the other to simulate a more accurate version of the LSAT.

Khan Academy is adequate for preparation, but if you struggle with self-study, you should consider investing in other LSAT prep courses or a get a private tutor. Check out our in-depth review of the best LSAT prep courses and the best online LSAT tutors, some of which guarantee to help you get a higher LSAT score or your money back.

Overall, Khan Academy LSAT prep is a good course, especially if you're on a budget. Many students have relied solely on Khan Academy to prepare for the LSAT and have obtained competitive LSAT scores.

The Khan Academy LSAT practice tests are accurate, but they are not the exact questions from previous tests. However, there have been tweaks of questions from precious official test exams.
